An inspired Sunday lunch hour

Bossa Nova jazz on the playlist, nice.

The black interiors of the restaurant framed the glistening blue waterfront perfectly… The food? Not the best Japanese I’ve had.

As I walked out, “Have a nice day!” said the waiter with the same warmth of the afternoon sun, and I left the restaurant smiling.

Then, something I read earlier from my pile of library books on restaurant concepts came to the forefront of my mind…

As destinations for pleasure and leisure, and with ever more rivals in a competitive market, bars and restaurants rely heavily on the creation of memorable atmosphere in their quest to seduce customers. Whether accommodating a night of escapism, or simply an inspired lunch hour, establishments must engage the eyes and imaginations of their guests, as well as their tastebuds, to retain patronage (Yabuka, 2005).
