What’s the plan, Stan? [pg. 4 of The Story]

<< previous page

We make plans, but do they pan out? In retrospect, more often than not things turn out to be different from what  we originally planned. Take for example, dinner plans. Last night Soph, Micah and I decided to go out for Korean, but on our way there before we reached the restaurant, we noticed a new Vietnamese restaurant next door to our favourite Japanese restaurant. We ended up beginning our meal at the Japanese restaurant before abruptly getting up to finish our meal next door to try out the pho and Vietnamese bread roll.

It’s a silly example but makes you question the use of making plans. Maybe, getting through life isn’t about our plans, our timing… but something else bigger, like opportunities and purpose, mistakes and obstacles, and allowing them to get in the way of our plans.

Out of the blue Soph said “so, what’s the plan?”

“Stan” said Micah in a split second, “sorry… couldn’t help it” he said with a grin.

“Truth is, I don’t know” I hear myself say and continued to absent-mindedly twist noodles around my chopsticks.

God must know. Or maybe, there actually is a Stan I can ask – that would most definitely make life easier. Just don’t ask me because I haven’t the faintest clue.
